PRAYERS
TO
USE AT HOME

To pray is to have a conversation with God, as a friend to friend, a loved one to a loved one. Praying can be done at any time at any place for whatever the reason. The following are but a few of Rev Mario's numerous prayers and are taken from "Praying with Rev Mario" and is available from our bookshop (bookshop@ica.org.au).  The Centre uses "so shall it be" as a closing affirmation at the end of each prayer which replaces "amen". May you be touched and uplifted by the use of these beautiful words.

Prayers for Mystical Communion

Come to me in the silence between the breaths I take;

come to me in the moment of quietness

between one thought and another;

come to me when the rhythm of life keeps me so busy,

when my thoughts and emotions overwhelm me;

come to me, for I have need of you.

I need your inspiration;

I need to closeness of your presence;

I need the unspeakable beauty which radiates from you.

I need you as the mighty one;

I need you as the humble one.

I need you in your terror;

I need you in your gentleness.

O God, I need you.

Speak to me; open the deafness of my mind and ears.

Grant me to hear the melodies

which no instrument can imitate,

no voice can sing.

Grant me to hear the truths which no human voice can utter,

no pen can ever write.

Grant me to be among the exalted ones,

for to be among them makes me to be exalted as well.

So with that longing, that innate desire,

I ask for that mystical communion, and to be swallowed up

in the greatness of your light and love.

And this I pray in the name of Christ.

So shall it be.

God of my heart,

how I yearn for your presence,

how I long for your revelation within me.

In the silence of this moment

speak to me of eternal things,

and in the softness in which my heart at this moment exists

imprint your stamp of deeper love,

greater compassion,

encompassing understanding.

May that deep realisation enter into me,

and give me patience

in the fulfilment of my task and karma.

So shall it be.

Serene light,

shining in the ground of my being,

draw me to yourself.

Draw me past the snares of the senses,

out of the mazes of the mind.

Free me from symbols, from words,

that I may discover the signified,

the word unspoken,

in the darkness,

which veils the ground of my being.

So shall it be.

Prayers for Transformation

God of my heart,

help me to enter into the presence of my own self,

to dare to face the ultimate which lies within my soul.

Help me not to look to the right or to the left,

above or below,

but to have a perception of the reality

that lies within my own being.

Take away from me all the shields I have built over the years.

Tear away from me that which is false,

that which is error, that which is not truth.

Give me an inkling of the greatness of my own realities

and help me to bow down before the God of my heart,

my own inner self....

This I pray in the name of the Christ.

So shall it be.

I have no words or thoughts to express

the infiniteness that lies within my heart,

nor can I express the love that beams from me to you, O God,

and your love to me.

Nor can I understand the mystery of your being

and the enveloping power

in which you shadow me and keep me.

Forgive me the littleness of my mind;

have compassion with my human error and judgement.

Help me that my feet may not wander from the rock

upon which you have placed me.

Enlarge me through your spirit.

Set me beyond and above the littleness of my existence.

And may I, in silence and quietness,

sometimes in the sadness and pain of my being,

perceive your voice and your purpose.

This I pray in the name of Christ.

So shall it be.

Prayer for Daily Life

I thank you, O God of my heart,

that you allow me at certain moments

to enter into the secret of your being and mine,

that you privilege me in allowing me to perceive

beyond the boundaries of my physical senses,

so that I may see the glory

that belongs to being truly human.

As I come back to my mundane existence

to attend to the day-to-day affairs of the world,

I pray that your touch of wholeness

will not go unnoticed in my life,

that from this moment onwards

somehow a light will shine

and that deep within myself I shall know

that I have been touched by that greater light,

that greater cosmic consciousness,

and that henceforth, I shall be the bearer of that light

and the instigator of new freedoms and wholemaking

wherever I shall go....

So shall it be.

Prayer for Evening

O Christ, the source of my being,

the light of my countenance,

the joy of my heart,

the foundation of my spirit,

enter deeper into communication with me.

Draw closer and manifest yourself in and through me,

through my individuality, through my mind,

through my emotions, through my senses,

through my gifts, through my affections

and through my love.

May I radiate more and more of that power

towards others and into the world

so that the Christ impulse will flow through me

and become manifested round about me...

Guide me in the astral when I am sleeping;

reveal to me some of the secrets of life in spirit;

refresh my body and my etheric,

and help me when I wake up in the morning to say,

"Good morning, God".....

So shall it be.

Prayer for the Dead

We offer and present unto you

all your children who have broken through the cycle of time

into the boundlessness of eternity;

especially we pray for .......................

May they be able to enjoy your presence

in ever greater and clearer awareness,

and prepare themselves for those lives

which they must still live on this earth

before they will be praising you

in spirit and truth for evermore.

So shall it be.
