From the heart of Christ is flowing
Heaven's peace and love to me,
Ever deeper, richer growing,
Through the cross of Calvary.
A Meditation *

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came for testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light. The true light that enlightens every man was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world knew him not. He came to his own home, and his own people received him not. But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God; who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father.
Gospel of St John 1: 1-14

Will you come and follow me
If I but call your name?
Will you go where you don't know
And never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown,
Will you let my name be known,
Will you let my life ge grown
In you, and you in me?
A verse from a song

The Son of God

*

On Ash Wednesday we begin our spiritual journey through the forty days of Lent. The cross of ashes placed on our forehead marks our intention to walk the way of the cross and so prepare ourselves to experience the great mystery and miracle of the resurrection.

Grant, O Lord, to us,
that we may begin this time of Lent
with the proper devotion and perseverance,
with steadfastness, love and understanding.
This we pray through Christ our Lord,
So shall it be. *

The words said to us as we came forward to receive the cross;

Remember that you are dust and to dust your body must return.
Remember that the spirit of Christ dwells within you and you shall live forever. *

Follow me
Jesus calls the disciples out from ordinary moments in their ordinary lives. This is how he calls us too – right in the middle of our everyday lives, whether it is a convenient moment or not. And he asks us to leave that which is old behind, even though, unlike these first disciples, we still probably need that day job! But that’s not the end of it – perhaps it’s really just the start. To be chosen and to live in the presence of Christ is an ongoing action.
