Lord, make Calvary real for me,
Lord, make Calvary real to me;
Open my eyes to see vic'try in Christ for me;
Lord, make Calvary real to me.
We are singing this song during Holy Week prior to our daily contemplations.
Holy Week Contemplation - In the Upper Room with Christ
Through contemplation of this Easter event,
our understanding of its personal application is deepened.

In this contemplation of the time in the upper room we begin by thinking about the whole of Holy Week from the point of view of the I AM - the Christ in us.

The Gospel of St John is the gospel of the I AM so our study begins with those passages written by St John.

We are reminded that we only know a few of the things that happened in this week:

  • Sunday - the entry into Jerusalem;
  • Thursday - Jesus with his disciples in the upper room;
  • Friday - the agony and arrest in the garden and the trials, mocking and scourging, crucifixion, death on Calvary and the burial in the tomb;
  • Sunday - the risen Christ and various appearances.

There is nothing of the other days or other times on these days.

We explored our own perceptions of these days and found within us a quality, a feeling. We asked ourselves what where the forces present? what was the atmosphere? what was the I AM doing?

Then we focused on Holy Thursday.

Jesus and the Disciples in the Upper Room:

John 13 - the footwashing

John 14 - discourse on the Comforter

John 15 - discourse on the True Vine

John 16 - discourse on the Spirit of Truth

What are your colours for this time? What is the atmosphere?

We contemplate. We draw. We write a title.

We contemplate.
We write a sentence about what we have seen,
felt, heard on this Thursday night in the Upper Room.
Something of the I AM.
The sentence begins I...

We share this sentence with all.

Some sentences....
I am always connected.
I dedicate my life.
I am ready to magnify the Lord.
I take the bread and cup in my hands and eat and drink.

We close by singing the song of this Holy Week:
Were you there in the Upper Room?
Were you there in the Upper Room?
O - sometimes it causes my to tremble, tremble, tremble;
Were you there in the Upper Room?
